STEM PROJECT

Explorers of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math

Ages 8-18

QC 4-H STEM Project is designed for children who are 8-18 years old. Members of this project use hands-on learning to explore various aspects of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Have you ever wondered why your computer is so smart, struggled to tell salt from sugar, tried to figure out how your model rocket works, or pondered the principle behind Ben Franklin's famous magic squares? While STEM is a great opportunity for Members without animals to participate, you might be surprised how big an impact these subjects can have — even on your furry friends.   Our Project takes on exciting, challenges to explore the many ways Engineering, Science, Math, and Technology are not only fun, but play a useful role in our everyday lives.  Experiment, Fail, Learn, Repeat — sometimes you succeed, but always you learn.

Project Meetings

Every 3rd Thursday of the month, Members gather together to experiment, learn and explore.  Our Project uses group discussion, experiments, videos, and hands-on-learning to develop a love of learning and discovery, as well as nurture Member's problem-solving skills.

Meetings are held at Signal Butte & Warner, taking place from 6-30-7:30 p.m..  For more information, or to receive our exact meeting location, please contact: qc4hstem@gmail.com.

In the Field—Field Trips, STEM Fairs, & the 4-H STEM Challenge:

As all STEM-lovers know, the ability to ask questions, test your work, and gain feedback are crucial to the world of learning and discovery. Fortunately for Members, our Project's occasional outside activities are a great way to do just that! Here are some additional experiences we offer.  (Please note: the amount/variety of activities set for the 4-H Year are set to change):

  • Field Trips: Whether heading down the street to the greenbelt, or out of/around town, engaging weekend field trips offer Members a chance to test their work, learn complex ideas, and speak to STEM professionals who use these subjects daily in their field.

  • STEM Fair: Building a display for a STEM Fair is a great way to show of the things you've been learning—or to explore something entirely new!  Members will have a chance to exchange knowledge with their fellow STEM-lovers, and will share their ideas with a panel of judges who will provide feedback on their displays.  We will kick off the 2024-25 Season with this event, and hope to see you there!

  • 4-H STEM CHALLENGE: 4-H provides special, thematic challenges geared towards helping members use Math, Science, Engineering and Technology to explore cool places like the far reaches of our galaxy, and the uttermost depths of the sea.

As you can tell, there is a lot to experience, but we're always sure to have a blast!

Solving Problems Together:

No STEM Project experience would be complete without doing some Community Service.  During the year, members can participate in various community-oriented activities.  They will cooperate with each other and other projects to:

  • Hand out flyers and collect canned food during 4H's annual "Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat" Food drive,

  • Decorate a float for the QC Holiday Parade, which they can follow down the route

  • Participate in Community Club meetings
